Jnanpith winner and bestselling author Amitav Ghosh has penned a new book 'The Living Mountain' during the pandemic. The book is a story about how over the years humans have exploited nature which is leading to an environmental crisis. According to publisher HarperCollins India, the upcoming book is a story of Mahaparbat, the Living Mountain and indigenous valley dwellers who live near the mountain. Disaster unfolds when humans assault on the mountain for commercial purposes. Commenting on the book, Udayan Mitra, Publisher– Literary, said in a statement, In 'The Living Mountain', Amitav Ghosh captures the complex dynamics between humans and the natural world within the short span of a few thousand words. It is a relationship that has turned problematic today, because of man’s inadequate understanding of nature, and because of the relentless human endeavour to harness, utilize and exploit natural resources. The editor of the anthology is the noted historian Julia Adeney Thomas. When I sent her the story she wrote back in response: “I want it taught in every school, admired in every publication, sent around the world. I’m simply stunned with amazement and admiration.”,' the author said in a statement. The book will be published in English, in Hindi, as an ebook and an audiobook in January 2022.
